08/10/2007 - Carmel, IN (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Kimberly Kim is proving a tough out at the U.S. Women's Amateur.
The defending champion survived another round of match play at Crooked Stick by squeezing out a 1-up victory over Jennifer Song in the quarterfinals on Friday.
Kim squared the match with a par at the 16th, then won with another par on the duo's 21st hole.
She also survived extra holes in the second round on Thursday, rallying from 1-down with one hole remaining to win in 20 holes. She had an easier time in the third round Thursday, winning 4 & 3.
Last year, Kim became the youngest U.S. Women's Amateur winner ever at 14.
This year, at 15, she is looking to become the first repeat champion since Kelli Kuehne in 1996.
"That makes me nervous," said Kim. "I haven't really put that much pressure (on myself). I've gotten this far, and I'm pretty proud of that. I don't think people expected me to do as well as -- as far as I've got so far."
The other three quarterfinal round matches on Friday were decided by the same score: 5 & 4.
In them, Maria Jose Uribe defeated reigning U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Champion Mina Harigae; Ha Na Jang beat 12-year-old Alexis Thompson; and Amanda Blumenherst knocked off Duke teammate Jennie Lee.
Blumenherst had four birdies in a row towards the end of the match to put away Lee.
"She played fine, it's just that when you have [four] birdies, it's hard in match play against the person you're playing," said Blumenherst, also a Curtis Cup teammate of Lee's. "I think she was kind of in shock."
Blumenherst advanced to face Kim in the semifinals on Saturday. Uribe will meet Jang.
The championship concludes Sunday with a 36-hole match play final.

Academy Award Betting Odds for Best Picture Offer Great Value
If there is any category that is not an obvious win for any one nominee in this year's Academy Awards, it would be for Best Picture. Sure the Departed is a 5/7 favorite, but that's hardly anything when we look at Helen Mirren and her "out-of-reach" 1 to 40 odds (which means you would win a whopping $1 for every $40 bet).
For value, take a look at MySportsbook.com Oscars betting odds on my personal favorite, The Queen - a remarkable 12 to 1 long shot. The film hasn't won any pre-awards for Best Picture (compared to The Departed and Little Miss Sunshine), but there is a tremendous following and it is a strong enough film to warrant a surprise win.
TV Guide advises Oscar watchers should be cautioned not to discount the drama "Babel" with its strong social themes about overcoming communication gaps among people of different cultures.
"While 'Babel' lost several guild awards to 'Sunshine' and 'Departed,' it still enjoys loyal support, and historically Oscar voters favor dramas with social messages over comedies like 'Sunshine' and violent crime movies like 'Departed'."
"It hasn't done well in the guilds, which means there isn't much industry support," said Tom O'Neil of awards site TheEnvelope.com, "But several critics are expecting it to win, and that gets my attention." Babel had 7 to 2 odds at press time.
Who is to say independently produced Little Miss Sunshine won't be this year's Crash. Last year, Crash won for Best Motion Picture, shocking those who bet on gay cowboy flick, Brokeback Mountain, as the favorite to win.
