Scherrer leads suspended Nationwide event

07/21/2007 - Springfield, MO (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Forty players had still not teed off when the second round of the Nationwide Tour's Price Cutter Charity Championship was suspended Friday due to inclement weather.

Tom Scherrer had a hole-in-one and was in the clubhouse with a two-shot lead when afternoon thunderstorms rolled into the area.

The storms dumped more than an inch of rain on Highland Springs Country Club, rendering the course unplayable and forcing the tour to suspend play for the day.

The round is set to resume Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m. local time. After the cut is made, the tour is hoping to squeeze the third round in by sending groups off split tees in the afternoon.

Scherrer will likely still have the lead when the third round begins.

Playing in a morning threesome off No. 10, he fired a nine-under 63 that included an ace at the 174-yard 13th and another eagle at the par-five 18th.

Scherrer, a tour veteran who turned 37 on Friday, stands at 15-under 129 -- two shots ahead of Justin Bolli, who made it into the clubhouse at 13-under 131.

The leader has posted a pair of top-25 finishes in the last two months following a stretch where he missed four straight cuts.

"I've played very well," said Scherrer, a one-time PGA Tour winner and two- time Nationwide Tour champion. "This is what we work for -- to put ourselves in this spot. I'm going to have to keep playing well, especially at this tournament."

Bolli had six birdies for a bogey-free 66 in the second round. Chad Collins shot a 67 and was alone in third place at 10-under 134 when play was suspended for the evening.

Andrew Pratt (68) was in fourth place at nine-under 135, while Brett Bingham (67) and Mark Walker (70) were a shot further back at 136.

Franklin Langham was the low player still on the course, sitting at eight- under par through four holes. Three other players were on the course at seven- under -- one of them, Scott Weatherly, was on his last hole.
