U.S. leaves Davies off preliminary Cup roster

Soccer Betting Lines

05/11/2010 - Chicago, IL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - United States coach Bob Bradley left injured striker Charlie Davies off the preliminary 30-man World Cup roster, which was announced Tuesday.

Davies emerged as a likely starter for the World Cup during the Confederations Cup last year, but suffered life-threatening injuries in a deadly one-vehicle accident in October.

Davies suffered a lacerated bladder, two fractures in his right leg, facial fractures and a left elbow fracture. He hoped to return in time to play in the tournament in South Africa next month, but was not selected by Bradley.

"He remained part of the consideration right up until yesterday," Bradley told ESPN. "We just felt that right now, Charlie, it's in his best interests to continue his rehab."

Jozy Altidore leads the United States at forward and Bradley will look at five others leading up to June 1, when the 23-man roster must be announced. Edson Buddle, Brian Ching, Robbie Findley, Herculez Gomez and Eddie Johnson were the other forwards selected.

Defender Oguchi Onyewu, another injury concern, was named to the team and will likely return to his starting duties in central defense for the World Cup. He was included in AC Milan's 23-man team for last week's Serie A match, and will be at full strength next month in South Africa.

"We're very, very pleased with his progress," Bradley said about Onyewu.

Following is the United States' complete preliminary roster:

Goalkeepers: Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Marcus Hahnemann (Wolverhampton), Tim Howard (Everton).

Defenders: Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA), Carlos Bocanegra (Rennes), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover) Jay DeMerit (Watford), Clarence Goodson (IK Start), Chad Marshall (Columbus Crew) Oguchi Onyewu (AC Milan), Heath Pearce (FC Dallas), Jonathan Spector (West Ham).

Midfielders: DaMarcus Beasley (Rangers), Alejandro Bedoya (Orebro), Michael Bradley (Monchengladbach), Ricardo Clark (Eintracht), Clint Dempsey (Fulham), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy), Maurice Edu (Rangers), Benny Feilhaber (AGF), Stuart Holden (Bolton), Sacha Kljestan (Chivas USA), Robbie Rogers (Columbus Crew), Jose Francisco Torres (Pachuca).

Forwards: Jozy Altidore (Hull City), Edson Buddle (Los Angeles Galaxy), Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo), Robbie Findley (Real Salt Lake), Herculez Gomez (Puebla), Eddie Johnson (Aris Thessaloniki).

Will Ohio State continue to run the table in College Football betting odds?
MySportsbook.com favors Buckeyes, Fighting Irish and Golden Bears in this weekend's big games.

NEW YORK, NY, Sept. 21 - My Sportsbook NCAA football fans: things are beginning to get really interesting on college football's national stage. Following last weekend's "Separation Saturday", which included five teams ranked in the top 15 dropping games, the BCS Championship picture is beginning to take shape - with Ohio State leading the charge. And, according to odds makers at MySportsbook.com, the number-one-ranked Buckeyes will continue their winning ways this weekend.

Revenge will be the name of the game in Columbus this Saturday, as Ohio State looks to even the score following last season's loss to Joe Paterno's Nittany Lions. Although Penn State are listed as 16.5 point underdogs, they are 11-10 all-time versus the Buckeyes. Paterno and the Lions, however, will have to shut down Heisman Trophy favorite Troy Smith who has thrown for 769 yards and seven touchdowns this season.

Speaking of revenge, Notre Dame will be out for some against Michigan State, following last year's 44 - 41 overtime loss to the Spartans in South Bend. The thirteenth-ranked Irish, listed as a 3-point favorite, will also be looking to avenge last Saturday's thrashing from the Michigan Wolverines. The Spartans, meanwhile, have won seven of the last nine match-ups against Notre Dame and are coming off an impressive 38-23 victory over Pittsburgh.

Out west, 22nd-ranked Arizona State will be battling for their first victory over 21st-ranked California since 2000. Although the Golden Bears are listed as 7.5-point favorites, the Sun Devils are 3-0, lead the nation in sacks with 18 and possess the Pac-10's leading passer in sophomore quarterback Rudy Carpenter.
